Deceiving Distance

by Baby Rainbow   Feb 18, 2013

Walking through the empty streets
beneath the midnight sky,
a crescent moon creates a light
that grabs my eyes attention.

I halt on the pavement
to ponder this view
that seems close enough to reach.

An aeroplane glides
between the stars
as if it was simply
connecting the dots.

But even from the advantage
of being high up in the air,
not even the plane's wings
can touch these stars tonight.

With Venus brightly shining
just seconds from the moon,
it creates a great impression
as if it was sitting inside our Earth.

But reality sinks in,
turning seconds into miles.
Separating me from the sky above
that seemed almost within my reach.
