The Birds Don't Understand

The sign said 'Caution, Lorries Turning',
Metal beasts made marks upon the land.
It all makes sense to money-makers,
But the birds don't understand.

They'll put up homes for out-of-towners,
Who never saw the meadowland.
But four bedrooms means success,
Although the birds won't understand.

In the warm, ignorant offices,
They cut up the greenbelt on demand.
Houses equals people equals tax,
But the birds don't understand.

The wildlife forever mistreated,
Whilst our parasitic race expands.
Mother Nature will never trust us,
And her birds will never understand.
