Always Remember That

It's a cold February night,
watching the snow fall
outside the restaurant window,
the conversation flows freely
while we wait for our meal.

He says:
"I want you to know
I meant what I wrote
inside your Valentines card.
You are all I want and need,
I know I don't express it enough
but I do love you.
Always remember that".

And as I look into his eyes
I can see the love and
before I can respond,

He says:
"This leads to a question".

He fiddles inside his jacket pocket,
stretches his arm across the table,
places a dark blue velvet box
before me and opens it.

There inside that little box
is a beautiful shiny sapphire ring.
As I raise my eyes to look at him,
his hands are nervously shaking and
his face is pale with blue eyes full of hope.

He says:
"Will you marry me"?

With hands covering my mouth
and as tears slide down my cheeks,
I look at the ring once more.
He stands, grabs the box,
comes and kneels beside my chair
and places the box in front of me again.

I turn, place my hands upon his cheeks,
kiss his precious lips and look into
those beautiful hopeful eyes

And I say:
"Yes, I'll marry you.
I love you to the moon and back
and then some.
Always remember that".
