Shadow Upon Trust

by Mimed Lovette   Feb 24, 2013

His shadow cast a forlorn blanket
upon the path as he treads by.
I stumbled after his trail of pensive
steps his feet etched to the ground.

I dare not breathe - not a sound,
the mist of silence dared me to foul.
Though his face did not appeal
I could feel the southern pine trees bow.

I want to consort with the unknown,
I want my start, my revolution.
But familiar calls me to reverse,
'Stay', it commands, 'and never to lust'.

His figure condense, slowly wanes and wither;
like an apple blossom lack of dew.
A sudden cricket chirp arouse
a valor unbeknownst to me.

I took a breath - I defied
the axioms that surrounded me.
I chose the unknown,
the unknown did not choose me.

^Oh how I loved this. I just love flower references, and though this one is simple it's perfect!

I love the entirety of this poem so much, there are so many moments in life where we have to decide which path to go down, and often we wish to stay with what we already know because the unknown is terrifying yet most of the time it opens up some awesome opportunities. I adore the way you expressed this, it's something we all go though everyday. The last two lines were so powerful & perfect for the poem. Though one little thing - breathe should be breath! Otherwise, you have a very unique way of writing, the bit of dialogue was something different yet it worked rather well. Lovely piece! :)
