Tree Carvings

Very Nicely Done!!!

After Saffie's comment there's really not much more I can say, this is filled with emotion, yet so beautiful, I always adore your nature pieces and how you incorporate your life within them, guess that's what comes from being such a nature baby... your word choices in this one are amazing, I love this piece.

We have consumed,
mulled over trivial thoughts
trapped them in a jar of dragonflies,
setting them free, to let my spirit glide
in the night of melting wax, dipped in
salted rain of a long, lost gaze.

- very very soothing openiing. I got from this that there are thoughts that fly in your head but not yet ready to deal with so you trap them in this jar of dragonflies in order to live for the day and not let them stop you living. You know they are there but it is easier to hide them for the moment.

Hand prints mark emptiness,
sign language of sadness,
left in carved markings of
a tree in our woods, where
we walk as one silhouette.

- i love the idea of hand prints representing emptiness - such a powerful image and thought. My thoughts from this was actually that once something is carved in a tree it is always there, you can never erase it and will always be able to see what was carved there. This could represent both the sadness you mentioned, or the happiness that you are holding onto, Either way it works very well.

The shadows bow to our sorrow
as if to say "they feel our pain"
but you and I rejoice in love,
leaving the grieving for another
day, a time we know will come
soon enough....

- the shadows bow??? REally, where do you get such poetic lines from!!
- I like the ending because although you acknowledge that the pain is there, you are not going to let it defeat you both which is the strongest thing you can do to fight it.

I think this poem is both mixed tones of living for the moment, but also being aware of the future and how precious the moment is.

Very touching poem but you have written this through nature in a way that is not so heavy on the heart to read but still creates the same emotional message.

This is such a sad poem, and reading it now for the third or fourth time it breaks my heart all over again. The ending pulls at my emotions so desperately. My absolute favorite part is the first few opening lines, trapping thoughts in a jar of dragonflies. Dragonflies can look scary, especially to kids, but once you know more about them they really aren't.. except for their little bite. I thought this was perfectly placed and made so much sense. I really adore this piece from you!
