The air was fresh as she ran through the streets for today was special day
A smile spread across the child's face once she spotted the parade
There were colors and colors everywhere dancing all around
People cheering and singing with glee and confetti on the ground
The little girl cheered and jumped up and down and waved into the crowd
But her cheering was stopped once she noticed a child who simply wasn't allowed
A woman stood above her with her hand on her shoulder, grim as could be
The child was crying and looking away, she obviously didn't agree
She had to do something; she couldn't just stare, so the girl did what was brave
The raven haired child darted out past the parade and over to their way
The blonde young girl with tears in her eyes looked at her with fear
The woman glared with her black big eyes, probably thinking she was queer
"How is it that you're crying right now, this is such a happy day!"
"Please won't you join me and take my hand as we walk in this parade?"
"No, you monster, she cannot go, for I am her mother!"
The words she spoke made her jump back and her body slowly shudder
"Did you ever ask your daughter what she wanted? Maybe she wants to join me"
"Why else be out here on this day if you hate instead of believe?"
Suddenly in surprise the blonde hair child took the raven's hand tight
Her tears were gone and in her eyes the raven saw delight.
Without warning the two ran off and down the streets with glee
Who cared about the angry mother when you could be happy
The mother watched as her daughter ran off and something strange took place
She sighed and looked into the crowd as a smile took over her face
She walked away without a word and without another sound
Maybe what her daughter needed had finally been found
In the distance you could surely hear the cheering and the celebration
For the rainbows and pride and happy voices is the simple jubilation
