Ah what a neat little concept for a poem! I remember picking out my Spanish name, I was Veronica for several years, but Florencia is gorgeous! I love how you wrote about what you think it means & where it originates from & such. Such a poetic piece! I found it quite interesting how you opened up with your first line in which you used 'el sol' meaning the sun. It's not often that different languages are used in poetry, it caught me a little off guard at first, but knowing my Spanish I knew exactly what you meant and given that this is a Spanish name I see it as a great fit!

    'Desert is her backbone'

    'the Mexican histories before her
    curve underneath her skin'

^Beautiful lines! I fell in love with them.

You are so creative! Such a small piece but I just love it :)

MaryAnne, I was surprised when I started reading, but when I got to the end, I was in a trance, I felt like I was in Spain, and I could feel the sun, the imagery is breathtaking, and I love the name, and the way this flowed off the tongue.

I want to comment further but I'm kind of speechless, the tone was gorgeous.
