A reflection unfinished in a mirror threatening to
shatter,
What life can be lived that holds neither meaning nor
matter?
^^
Firstly what gripped me was your opening line! I love the imagery of the mirror and how vivid in my mind you have made this be with your wording.
I also like your technique of using rhetorical questions as it invites the reader to participate and often leads them to ask these questions to themselves and of their own experiences allowing them to want to read more.
What can be done when one's tongue flickers too
quick for one's good?
Mistakes can often be reversed but does not mean
that they should.
^^
These last two lines are so wise and deep buried within the core of what people often think and believe. People always look back on life and regret their mistakes and you are right some can be reversed but the wisdom stems when you say that it doesn't always mean they should as it is often from these mistakes that we learn and develop as a person. Although the mistakes are harmful to us, it is through them we change, adapt and condition ourselves to better future experiences that are similar.
A reflection not nearly complete yet several pieces
have gone astray.
Many have slipped through slim cracks and others
have moved too far out of way.
^^
I love how you have repeated and defined your personal interpretation of what a reflection is and I like the metaphors you have woven throughout this poem to compose and structure those meanings. It makes us reflect as a reader as we look at our lives and compare what we know to your words.
My reflection is a journey, one that I must repeat
several times.
For it changes like the wind but never seems to
satisfy.
^^
Wow! I love this, so true, so simple yet so deep and complex. I love how you talk about it being a journey so true an inner journey of your heart and soul one that needs to adapt as you live each day. It shows the flexibility to change and the need to accept that we always seek to better ourselves as we often look down on our own lives when it seems that others always spot the good in ours.
I loved the structure and flow of this poem.
5.5 from me!
Btw welcome to the club :)
