Girls Day Out

by Larry Chamberlin   Mar 17, 2013

She looked young and spirited
as her friends took her picture
in front of the bronze mustangs:
free & unfettered.

Then the photos ended
and she gathered up:
a heavy coat (on a warm day),
a stuffed oversized purse,
and an empty souvenir cup.

Suddenly she became
a mother on holiday
to the rodeo.

Got the same picture too! It just makes me sad to see that she only forgot about time and pain and sadness for just a moment; a moment that is captured in a frame. But as fast as the flash was pressed she was back to reality, to her sadness that she tries to cover up...

    A really touching piece, Larry!

Awww Dang it!! Andrea got to analyze this before me! That is exactly what I got out of this piece Larry....which actually is quite sad...because this woman is enjoying a quick moment of being youthful, but tries covering up her pain or sadness in baggages and coats...I dont think there is any need to hide it..we are all human!

To me, I think no matter your age, you should embrace life...and don't try and cover up sadness or pain, or bad choices, or tough circumstances..that is life...The best way to handle all of that is to live life..Have fun! Dont let the bad bring you down...dont be disappointed when the "Rodeo" is over....head home, take care of business, then buy tickets to the next one! Thats how my mom is at 51 years old...and I hope thats how I am...

This character in this poem did the right thing by enjoying a moment of freedom, despite what she weathers, despite her age..

    I enjoyed this poem :)

P.s Andrea has some crazy stuff in her purse, use that for your next piece!

      Chels,
You must not tease. What intriguing items does our newest grandmother carry around?

Oh this holds deep meaning... I interprut this as a woman who tries to embrace youth in a free moment.. but covering up her sadness within a "coat" on a warm day- and overstuffed purse- which to me means harboring sadness and feelings... realizing she is growing older, and it was a cover up moment? Either way I truly admire this piece... because I have an overstuffed purse too...
