Betrayed By A Heartless Hug

Your convincing tears were naively believed
through my brown forgiving eyes.
A beat from my heart whispered forgiveness
to the sound of regret in your voice.
You offered me a hopeful hug
which I returned as a sign of peace.
Reassuring statements came from your lips
with promises of a different tomorrow.

But fooled I was by the meaningless apologies
that you spat out with every icy breath.
Betrayed once more by a heartless hug
and the mask of kindness you painted upon your face.
So I end this poem with a round of applause
for your winning performance that deceived my heart.

And I will never forgive my naive eyes
for being blind to the betrayal
that was hidden inside
your heartless hug.
