Victim of True Love

He was more than my boyfriend
he was my best friend,
but only God knew this is how it would end

we did what we could do
to stay together,
but the time we spent
was far from forever

love was an understatement
of what we shared,
we shared a heartbeat
but nobody cared

they didn't think our love was real
