Daily Pique

by Mimed Lovette   Mar 26, 2013

The early breath of winter skies
dusts my cheeks and bathes my skin.
Ice cold sleet knocks upon the door,
another chance to make-believe.

It's hard to trudge through Japan's snow
with sullen feet and empty seats.
The Common Kingfishers' migratory flights
blur the white horizon with such wild beats!

A distant shrill, the peace now shattered.
My eyes burst open with ireful might.
7:02 Daylight saving time:
Here I am, greeted by warm sunlight.

Living in the Philippines, I have never touched snow or experienced winter. Although I would love to! Every time I read poems about snow or winter or blizzards etc., especially poems like this that are so jam-packed with imagery, I feel like I have experienced it. I think it is lovely, but I reckon it could be quite irritating. It is the same with some people about warm weather. I mean I am most of the time sick about it, but there are those who love it because it is quite rare for them to experience it. And it is summer here already, it is so hot! Haha. It is either rainy or dry here but I prefer the wet season. I also loved the rhymes in this poem. It gave this a nice beat, which fit really well with the tone.

Love all the imagery & emotions you're feeling about it....a very fulfilling piece with each line coming alive, I loved the flow of this and your uniqueness in it, how you mentioned Japan & the Common Kingfisher specifically. A great poem! :]

Ha, funny enough this made me think of me and how I complain about the snow and cold all too often. It's definitely something that frustrates me every single day of the winter ;) I see you're using some of the words in the words that sparkle thread, nice job!
