Ma Chere Amie

by Lauren Waszkiewicz   Mar 28, 2013

Icy chills and red hot thrills
My hands shiver from your glance
My stomach lurches, bile surfaces
Your eyes have me in a trance

Matchsticks smoking and my lungs are choking
Poison replaces oxygen
Purple veins within that show through sullen skin
Give me your carcinogen

I drink my newest poison
Glass cauldron, sweet nectar
Sip, then swallow, my lips taste the ink
That will write my next chapter

Girl Scout chants, how they ring true
About those who are silver and gold
Finding love in the knife of the new
But you'll never be free of the old

The razor's edge, crisp and cool
Like the porcelain friend I've been missing too
My temple, my body, ma chere amie.
The mirror's edge can only lie to me.
