Mistake

You were the mistake I had to make
A lesson learned for my heart's sake
You thought our whole life was planned
Still now you don't fully understand
Why I left you completely alone
Walking down the path of unknown

The reasons I chose to leave
I'm not sure you'd want to perceive
Just realize my decision was for the best
Though I ignored the pang in my chest

The pain of knowing what could've been will never be
Is also the comfort that set me free
Free from the chains that weighed me down
Now liberated I am renowned

Renowned knowing you were
The mistake I had to make
The lesson learned for my heart's sake

*This was written quite some time ago but I thought I haven't written anything in so long I would reminisce.*

    I love your poem...I know exactly how you feel. I have gone through that kind of issue as well. I have loved, lost and left. And, I still have not moved on. It hurts me to remember, yet I know I cannot turn back.
