Rain Dance

by Luke   Mar 28, 2013

I remember the rain but it's a memory now
They say it could wash away your burden, somehow
But it left me to parch with heavy heels and dried up hands
With god-speed I can make it to the Promised Land
-But I'm too stuck to move on
So I watched the field turn to weeds and the river run dry
A wild-fire set the trees alight
With ash in my mouth, praying for rain to the holy light
I realized that I'd be sleeping on the steps at night
-Until the light of day or until I die
But I won't give up my desires to the god of this drought
Who kept me sewing my seeds to no fruition, I avow
No dusty scripture ever eased my doubt
So I'll pack up and learn to carry on without
-It's high time I moved on
