The Baby Rainbow (Narrative)

by Rusheena   Apr 1, 2013

I knew of a blue baby rainbow
that was too afraid to fly.
She was struck down, hard, by lightning
and fell from a stormy sky.
That fateful day, she had lost her way,
wandering the woods in tears,
as her thick, gray veil of clouds trailed
the forest floor for years;

They canopied her head, like coffins do the dead,
and showered her soul with gloom,
as she mourned her fall from grace
and feared her impending doom.
Even though she made the wilderness glow,
when her radiant smile would shine,
her bleeding hues would continue to bruise,
leaving white streaks, line by line.

Until one afternoon, a fierce storm would loom
frightening the baby rainbow.
She cowered in fear with the rabbits and deer,
after seeing the face of her foe,
but the time had come to no longer feel numb
and fight the lightning's flash.
So she boldly challenged her enemy,
and all day, the warriors would clash.

The baby rainbow showed no mercy;
she fought gallantly and won,
Reducing her opponent to ashes,
she watched him burn under the sun.
She was finally free to reclaim the sky,
as her weightless clouds took flight.
Her colors were fully restored,
and their beauty shined through the night.

This was for Baby Rainbow's name challenge and inspired by the song "Now" by Paramore.

(Not too fond of the format; it was suppose to look like this: http://randomrusheena.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-baby-rainbow.html)

Well Rusheena, I don't really know what to say. This was so touching and full of inspiration.

The story it told was very moving and I think represents all the broken-winged birds out there who cannot fly as of yet, but they will in time.

As for the layout, I think it worked fine to be honest, and the flow and subtle rhyme was smooth for me also so I do not see an issue there.

The courage within the poem and motivation to fight for life is breath taking. I truly was very touched by this and it will always be a special poem to me,

Thank you for sharing this :) xxxx

I loved the topic and loved the rhyming. The deep imagination poured in the poem revealed how you are able to introduce such thought provoking poems. This made me read it twice to sink and feel it. Thank you Rusheena for sharing this about Baby Rainbow.
