Accidental Muse

by Chelsey   Apr 17, 2013

Frustration gets the best of me and I wish
to ask if you enjoy hindering my passion,
yet you don't realize you do it. Unaware
of my inability to release anything-
other than my feelings for you.

As my stare is cast out the window, I can only
dream of being as free as swaying branches,
only wish to be as flexible as blowing leaves.
Yet, my time is limited and I'm trapped-
in viscous thoughts of you.

I try and avoid topics that resemble your beauty,
but no matter where I go, no matter what I see-
its you.

Natures breath reminds me of how badly I wish to
feel yours (clashing mine).
Music lyrics remind me of the notes in your
laughter (melodically ruptured).
Passing cars remind me of the distance between
us (never ending).

So when gravity forces veins to rise,
knuckles to get white, and my heart to
unintentionally cry, understand that...
poetry can't stray from you,
my accidental muse.

    "I can only
dream of being as free as swaying branches.
Only wish to be as flexible as blowing leaves."

I would eliminate the period and make it a comma, and lowercase the "o". The last sentence is fragmented :)

Also: "but no matter where I go, no matter I see-"

I think you're missing something.. no matter "what" I see maybe?

I love your fourth stanza, how you have the pieces in parenthesis; it felt very effective to me here. I also love the vivid imagery of the second stanza, particularly the branches. What a beautiful, "freeing" picture.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your ending.. oh my goodness.. again with the images but then that gut wrenching feeling. You've back so many emotions here in this last stanza alone, bwaah. I just love it. This is really a beautiful poem.
