Why Do I Write

by Gary R Priester   Apr 25, 2013

Why do I write upon life's stage?
I do not know
Perhaps it's just a phase

But if that's true than it will pass
but that can't be
For the written word makes thoughts forever last

Perhaps I write for fear of death?
But I don't think so
For I see death as rest

The mind struggles so through out one's life
With faith, hope and love
Against evil, injustice and strife

Perhaps I write for ego's sake?
Because I am best
At whatever the stake

But why then do others leave me in their wake?
Their skills so fine
They make mine seem lame and fake

Perhaps I write for glory's sake?
For fame and fortune
Are mine to take

But I am just a simple man
And glad to be
In the place I stand

So why do I write upon lif's stage?
I do not know
But wait I must turn the page!

I do not know where this came from, It just happened!

I think we've all put pen to paper on this topic at some point; however, yours is at the top of my list! Nice job.

    It just happened Sir?

Isn't poetry like that? It just happens and sometimes we don't know where it comes from.

A good poem, enjoyed the rhymes and the thoughts.

Though on a critique part there are a few typo's.

However, I feel like sharing my reason for writing, and I write for many reasons number one is because I love doing so whether good whether bad, every write means something. :)
