I've always loved being the martyr
Cracked like the surface of old stone
Gave up everything I have
Just to leave myself all alone

I am not the girl I was
I'll shed my past like a snake's skin
Like a phoenix I'll rise from the ash
The future's about to begin

I want to make myself new for you
Untainted by demons from the past
And while I can't erase what has happened
I can try to make sure that it doesn't last

It starts now.

    This is a very inspirational piece, we all make mistakes, we all have a past and although we cannot change it, we can learn from it... move on and don't repeat them, make it better... I really like this piece, well written.

    To escape a past is very tough to endure and to manage. The uplifting feeling of hope, rising above the ashes is very evident in this piece.. much admired.. You have an elegance in your pen.. and can share your feelings quite nicely, I like that within poems..
