I Am Afraid

by Owner of an Untamed Heart   May 10, 2013

I am afraid.

I am afraid that when it is my day
To perish, no one will feel
A thing. No one will shed a tear while
I rot in the ground. While my dust
Turns into nothingness in the soil.

I have neither courage nor strength.

I have yet to prepare for
Death and I must admit, I do not wish
To die. And even when my body tells me
That it is my time, it will probably be too
Late. I haven't cherished the time I've had,
And perhaps I should start.

Not tomorrow,
And not only today.
Right this second; as my fingers slide across my
Keyboard, I will prepare. I will cherish EVERY
SINGLE little second.

From the good times to the bad times.

I promise myself, though, I am
Still afraid. For now.

This is such a poem I can relate to and you mentioned with such wisdom that truth that we must realize, we can't wait for the world, we have to be a part of everything we want to be, and like you said, cherish all the time. I think we all have that fear that we will be taken maybe when it is "time", but that we won't have a legacy. I liked how you talked about having the courage and strength, because those are two things we must find within ourselves, that come from the soul. You have such a simplistic way of writing and it's refreshing, you put out what you feel at the moment and how it relates to your life. Keep writing!
