Fire Dancers

by The Queen   May 12, 2013

There is a fire that swells in the click of my heels.
It hovers at my feet with a fiery flare,
mounting and throbbing
like a weapon,
stacked to explode.

I've never been one for a coquettish dance,
but, like twin flames, here we are tonight;
equally aroused, feverishly mimicking each stance.
as if provoked to depress and retract;
our ribcage entwined, our pelvis
gyrates in tantric rhythms.

Just as predatory; each glance exudes an animalistic hunger.
His hot breath scours the crook of my neck,
as our bodies slither to sultry beats.

But I, with skills of a matador,
I can lure you, Sir
like an infatuated bull
any day.

Come, dance. With me.
If you dare.

    "Whilst I adore the closing lines I found I wasn't too keen on the rest. I found the last few lines to be exceptionally strong whereas the first few lines were much weaker. "Fiery/flare/twin flames" is this supposed to be the variation of 'red'? If so, I'm a little disappointed as I belive the author can do better. I do like "click of my heels." as it reminds me of the wizard of Oz, which is one of my favourite movies. Absolutely adore the last two lines, strong, impacting, creates emotion and feeling for the reader. But I feel the fact that the rest of the peom is considerably weaker here lets the poem down as a whole."

    I'm sad I didn't have any nominations left by the time you posted this!

    I think you seriously nailed my intention for the paso doble. This was one of the harder ones I thought, and you freakin' impressed me.. which isn't hard to do for you naturally ;)

    It's like you were literally writing out a dance for someone. You had so many specific pieces that are so central and sensual to the dance, and I seriously just saw this poem come alive in a dance. Definitely one my favorite.

    I love the ending, too. Very blunt. Very direct. Very distinct. Very tease-like. Like you're hot and you know it. Haha. I seriously just love this poem.

    I must highlight the entwined ribcage. Ahh. Okay, I'm going to stop geeking over this poem, lol. I really just love it. One thing I will say is the title doesn't really do the poem justice. I can't think of a better title as I'm not good with them, but the poem is really, really strong and doesn't directly reflect the title I thought. Just a thought. :)
