Diary Entry: Separate

~Charlotte

He has a mystic beauty about him.
Nothing prepares me for the tornadoes within his eyes
when I pass his shadows every day and night at supper time.
Or maybe, his eyes are like the tide.
Magenta when the sun sets horizontally and indigo
when waves creep then parade over our amber cliffs.
We never interact.
No one does anymore.
And it's that, that notion of being together like two blades
of grass tying their friendship into vows,

that I miss the most.

Working on a short story/novel (not really sure) about a dystopian future because I've been reading books lately that have interested me deeply, when the society takes over. This female character does not know how to speak and cannot hear, all she has is her touch, words, and visions. This is just a random excerpt, I don't really write in sequence, I thought could read as a poem too.

That final simile is my favorite. I think it adds so much from the imagery to what the character's feeling. Reading this the first time around, I got the feeling of sadness, relatively speaking. But looking at the whole, the life/society genre, I realize is more apt. I've read a few novels regarding utopian/dystopian communities as well, such as the Hunger Games and The Giver quartet. I'm not sure if you've heard of the latter, the former I'm quite sure is more popular. This reminds me of Jonah's community, wherein they are deprived of certain feelings; seeing colors as well. It's an interesting topic and I'd love to see this progress. I think the name Charlotte is lovely too. It has this rusty/vintage feel to it.

The details and metaphors in this piece really make this poem pop Maryanne...For not writing like this usually, I think you did a splendid job with portraying what the author maybe be feeling about a certain someone within a few short lines...the graass analogy was perfect..I've used that once before and I just feel that described a closeness so well...one very understandable..

Loved this write. I vote yes for you to continue on with a novel!
