The Rookie

by Michael D Nalley   May 13, 2013

The informal term "castle" is deprecated
when privacy is left unappreciated
The Knight is now in check.
The Queen is a nervous wreak
I have never quite felt the shame
of being a pawn in their game
The bishop has confirmed me
My great king has affirmed me
When peace & love turns to hate
There always lies a true check mate

This poem is really neat, I am intrigue by the way you used the game of chess, to describe a rookie. My favorite lines are the last three, because love can easily turn into hate when someone gets hurt and in the game of chess there's always someone who gets checked. I have read quite a few of your poems, and honestly this one is my fav.

    Great write....AL
