Drop Drop Drop

by Lauren   May 15, 2013

Drop, Drop, Drop
The day lingers on
Woke up, splash some water on my face
Rub some pink lipstick on these lips I look upon
Yet the color seems to have taken on a gray base

Drop, Drop, Drop
Thought I'd feel more fulfilled
Is this all?
I have so much more in me, so much left to build
I'd trade this for a knife in the back or a hard fall

Drop, Drop, Drop
Oh, this pain is of a different type
Dull, lingering, unmoving in its own kind of glory
An empty hole that's old but still feels ripe
It's like a book with no end to its' story

Drop, Drop, Drop
The blood ever so achingly seeping
Let it overflow, it'd be more humane
If only this dull throb left me weeping
Unhealing, come on, just cut a vein

Drop, Drop, Drop
My mouth curves to the sky
How can you not see me growing faint?
Blue eyes acting like mirrors so sly
So the vision you have of me will never taint

I love this! Love the repetition and the description "Dull, lingering, unmoving in its own kind of glory
An empty hole that's old but still feels ripe"- I could almost feel the pain you were describing as I read that. The flow is nice and the rhymes work well, I found them to be quite subtly placed (truth be told I didn't notice for the first couple of stanzas), but they definitely help the poem to flow well. Excellent emotion, excellent feeling, love this!
