Treasure

by Daylight Lucidity   May 19, 2013

Balance flows through an ocean
Riding the waves of a stormy sea
May there be a girl waiting, hoping,
To find the chest flung from pirates' cold keep.
I sit in their cell, maiden dress torn and shredded
Blood and dirt smudging my face
My lips set in a stern line, a piece of the captain's sword embedded
Within the swollen skin of my arm, leaving a trace
Of jewels glittering bittersweet for my eyes.
They swarm around the metal bars,
The crew who's eyes roam over me,
Undressing me with their stares
The captain the head of their filthy dreams.
They throw me in their dazzling chest of what should be gold,
Empty and damp it entombs me, decorated with seaweed,
They slam the lid shut and chain it closed
I hear their laughs, so entirely frightening.
I feel them rush onto the deck,
Flinging me around in the dark box
They throw me into the water, I feel water beads upon my neck,
And by the unforgiving sea, I was caught.
I floated for days, storms every morning and night
Creatures knocking the chest, my fright filled screams reverberating around me,
My sobs rocking it back and forth in the absence of light
Asking why am I prisoned within these four dirty walls where I bleed,
Begging that I could be someone's treasure.

After what I assume to be many months,
The chest is broken into, more pirates I presume,
Instead I am graciously welcomed by a beautiful woman
Her face like an orchid abloom.
Her jewel like eyes glow at sight of me
My own light up in return
My heart begins to beat unevenly
With resurrected hopes of being someone's valued treasure.

This is quite beautiful. The allusion to the pirates works really well with the theme here. You can draw a lot of connections (pirates = dirty people who use others and threaten others to get what the want = past loves). It works really well.

And the beginning sort of contrasts the idea of it being a love poem when you're being abandoned but the ending is an amazing turn of events.

    Nicely done.
