The Smile

by Dominique Lewis   Jun 4, 2013

Poor little child has no clue,
She sees her mommy smiling and thinks everything is fine,
What the baby doesn't know is how her mother is feeling blue,
Good thing she doesn't see mommy drinking the wine.

She puts on a fake smile so that the daughter won't know,
Know how she is going far away cause mommy can't pay the bills,
Soon there will be no more walking through the silvery snow,
No more walking up the flower covered hills.

She doesn't have the courage to tell the girl how she is going to foster care,
Or how she lost her job a few months ago,
How mommy and daddy got a divorce because of the affair,
How mommy lost her once lovely glow.

She puts on the smile so her daughter's heart won't break,
Won't break like her's does every single day,
If only she knew that her mother's smile is fake,
Or how her life seems to loose it's color and has turned gray.

I am sorry my precious daughter but you need to know...
That this smile isn't what you think,
I am going to miss watching you grow...
You are going to be gone in a blink.

Stay strong for mommy cause we will see each other soon,
Next thing you know you will be in my arms again,
You will always be my sweet lil baby, June,
I am glad you can't see these tears because of the rain.

Mommy will see you soon hun,
You just keep your head held high,
My days are done,
Don't you dare cry.

This smile you see is how you will remember me,
I will miss you so much,
Don't worry I will let you be,
I am going to miss your soft touch.

Goodbye.
