Beneath My Skin

by Sigoney Holder   Jun 6, 2013

We have eyes to see

But what you're seeing isn't me

We have all kinds of emotions to portray

But mine are false; the real ones are hidden away

We have millions of words which we can say

But mine are dull and plain, the real ones are for another day

We have senses that make us feel

But mine are lies; they are not capable of being real

I know none of this makes sense

But I need you to see

A diamond in the rough

A rose in a stinging nettle bush

A gem disguised as a stone

A dove disguised as a pigeon

A duchess disguised as a maid

If you can see this then maybe you could be

The one I've been looking for, the final man for me

And I'll know that I've finally found something

If you possess eyes that see beneath my skin.

I like the feeling in the poem. that you want to show people who you are but you are too afraid so you want them to see for themselves
