It's the Only One You Have

by Daylight Lucidity   Jun 11, 2013

Forgetting past heartbreaks is hard
Torturing the heart you wish would silence
Afraid to love again, afraid of another scar
Wary of its potential happiness.

Finding someone who makes it not hurt
Is even harder than forgetting.
Someone who cups and kisses away the pain in your heart
Can be worth the chance of falling.

Treat this most precious part of yourself well,
It's the only one you have; love can be beautiful
If you let it in. Remembering all those sweet things you felt
Can be something so delightful.

The words "I love you" are so special,
But can be dispensed at the first indication of care
Listen to the beating in your precious chest,
Its insightful words are trying to be shared.

Reminds me a little of Shakespeare's famous spake, 'better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all' or something like that !
    ( And he was right)!!

    Nicely penned poem !
