My Dance with Satan

by Daylight Lucidity   Jun 18, 2013

I dance with shadows so proper,
Their kisses against my bare skin
Are painfully sweet and prosper
But the ice on which we waltz grows thin.
The skates I wear shred the ice
My dress twirling like a black hole
The shards give way to their dark price
My heart on a platter, a ravaged soul.
Breathing the flames from their lips
Sears my throat and lungs
Killing me with Satan's kiss
And to Hell's escape, I jump.
I've thought of all the ways I could die:
The knife, hanging, jumping, pills
I've tried three of the four, how I tried,
But some alarm in the back of my mind always trilled.
My eyes burn when I want to cry, no tears stream
I poured them all out with each attempt
At suicide, my dark little secret;
Hoping from life I'd be exempt.
Loving liars, cheaters, beaters,
Destroying all of the sweet girl I was
Drowning me in the hate while my sanity teeters.
My dance with Satan
Tore me apart
As I twirled with pain
And broke my own heart.

    Hmm. I love this.

Beautifully worded which really enhances the elegant dance with the shadows and your inner demons.

The reference to the black hole is also very nice. Something that consumes all without any hesitation. Stealing your innocence, tearing away your heart. Nice element.

The ice as well. Contrasts hell and its fire but the fire from beneath the ice could be making it thinner by melting it? Not sure but also captures the idea of a heart void of feelings. Cold and lifeless. Nice.

I love rhyme. And you are really good at it. You use an abab pattern and at some points it doesn't follow that but it still flows very well. Nice :)

Adding nature adds a more real and natural sense to the poem so that works really well.

    I love it.
