Push Me Away

by Daylight Lucidity   Jun 19, 2013

Mountains beckon with each glance,
The sea serenades with each wave
Plains call with each glint of golden wheat
But their love pushes me away.

It cannot be explained, this pain in my chest.
I've tried to douse the embers of my smoldering heart
With tears from my eyes but it never stopped
Burning and poisoning with layers of hurt.

I rest my hand against the bark of this white birch,
Murmuring to each leaf that falls
That they are beautiful even in the wind
And that I love them even though I walk.

"Hush, little birds, I will find you again"
I sing softly into the passing breeze
Their chirps low and sad caress my ears
From where they perch up in the trees.

Push me away, but I will still follow
Not within these delightful places
But somewhere above or below
Such free, loving spaces.
