Wrong Love, Wrong Ring

by Daylight Lucidity   Jun 23, 2013

That fateful, dreadful day when you popped the question
Lurks in the back of my fragile mind
Threatening to break my back with the weight of repression
The "love" we kindled was of the deadly kind.
"Will you be my wife?" bubbled past your deceitful lips
Throwing me off guard, my whispered "yes" not registering
In my thoughts. Sealing our undetermined fate with a poisonous kiss
My fright spreading through my veins faster than any speedometer could measure.
Your delicately sharpened words telling of a ring
That held a sapphire, my favorite jem, enticed me
Into believing this engagement was not an ordinary fling
But a commitment we could handle, a vow of love's treat.

I was wrong.
We were wrong.
Wrong love,
Wrong ring.

I gave it back, tears streaming silent and quick,
My love was never strong enough to truly answer you.
I kissed your forehead with my eyes closed,
Making it easier to walk away from you and your broken heart, too.
I promised myself as I left you standing there in despair
That I would never propose or answer a proposal
Unless it was so entirely clear
That I wished to be theirs for ever, a love so ambrosial.
Never again making the mistake
Of a wrong love,
Or a wrong ring.

This is truely amazing! it is a good decision to make, to only accept a ring with love that will last. but this poem is so sad too,

Wow love this holds so much weight within my heart. This tells a story od sadness and heartache. I think you did the right thing by walking away if you didnt truly love this person. Live with no regrets. :) 5
