Battling The Scales

by Baby Rainbow   Jun 25, 2013

Standing on the scales, I watch the numbers rise,
praying they will be higher than the day before.
My heart sinks down to the bottom of the sea
as the pounds just won't stay on.

An overwhelming feeling of failure sets in,
all my effort has been in vain.
Tears fill my eyes and escape down my cheeks
as I try to think of ways to beat the scales.

I carefully select my outfit, wearing layers to deceive.
My heart races fast, beating with fear, as I hope
no one else will notice.

I am falling apart beneath my skin,
and I know I have let you down.
But my heart is truly aching
because I don't think you understand
just how much I tried to win.

This is a good poem, it makes me think of people who maybe suffering from anorexia and the struggles they encounter. Many people don't understand that it's a mental disorder, they feel that the person could eat if they wanted to, they also believe that the person is causes his/her families unnecessary problems. The truth of the matter anorexics have a mental disorder that's so complex that you couldn't understand from just looking in. They are victims of imperfection just like us.

    Great write...AL
