Liquid Bombs

by Baby Rainbow   Jun 26, 2013

At the top of the bottle, what is it that you find?
When you drown within the poison,
what is it you achieve?

Each bottle is a self-destructing bomb,
tick,
tock,
tick...

...but bombs only tick for so long.

At the top of the bottle do you care what you see?
The pleading faces through the glass
that you continue to ignore.

The sound of your mother's heart breaking as you
choose your liquid lover over her. The disappointment
in your father's eyes because he wanted more
for you, and expected so much more from his son.

And all we can do is observe from a distance,
as you dive right into every bottle of
self-destructing bombs...

...but bombs only tick for so long.

I loved the title and the questions at the start of this. You seem to be the "narriator" of this. Trying to set up the scene. When an addict becomes an addict they don't want anything else. They use it to cope usually. This person seems to be an alcoholic. I loved the raw emotion you give us. The (addict) is indifferent to the worry their family is showing. Showing the parents separate emotions really goes well with the poem I feel. Because you build it up, you have to show it. Observe is a great word because it tells me that you have tried a lot of things and nothing as worked so you gave in. Great comparison to the bomb as well. That's what addiction is. A ticking that will someday harm you. Great write.

Alcoholism is a slow death... its sad for family and friends to see one go through it, but like any addiction, you can stop if you really want to... the title is perfect and the write is heartfelt and shows the families perspective....
