Dream Catcher

by Daylight Lucidity   Jun 29, 2013

The light grows dim outside my window
The elegance of nature illuminated by streaks
Of fuchsia; a sign that another night has come.
I hesitate at the foot of my bed
The realm of dreams one of terror
I close my eyes and grasp a gift
I had been given from my grandmother.

The dream catcher hung above my head
Underneath the statue of my raven
Protecting me from the horrors of my subconscious
And ridding my heart of the evil that tried to consume it.

From where I lay, it was as if the raven clutched it,
Helping guard my sleeping silhouette
Its eye of night glimmering
Like the beads hanging from the dream catcher.

I fall asleep with a smile lightly on my face
Knowing I will be ensconced
By my two cherished belongings.

I love dream catchers and pictures of them, as I have one as my profile pic :] They're so beautiful and I hope to have one day... I never grew up with them or had one, I've just seen them in stores but I like the idea of that protection when sleeping, it's just a simple comfort for some people and I know that symbol can put a smile on people's facing....thinking of catching all the bad dreams or what not.

Truly beautiful poem, I feel at peace and you captured the essence of knowing you can calmly sleep...I like how you mention it's a gift from your grandmother as well as having a small statue of a raven. I also like the way you open up this piece into the "realm of dreams", like an entrance we have to be cautious of because nothing is guaranteed.

    Take care & keep writing!
