Filly-Like Smile

by Daylight Lucidity   Jul 6, 2013

I sit on the edge of a brook,
Thinking various things aloud,
My mind one of chaos
And my smile unstable like
A newborn filly.

My smile trembles as I
Try to make it strong,
Like the legs of the newborn
Who yearns to trot and canter
With the others,

Stretching limbs and
Attempting to try on its own
To gain that strong foothold upon
Solid ground,

As I have tried to smile on my
Heart's stone walls.

I ponder day by day
And come up with something
So fragile and unsure;

My filly-like smile.

I like this poem a lot too as horses are my second favorite animal :)). Heres my breakdown.

First stanza- the metaphors here at the start are great!! Life is choas at the start of a phillys life and I love the great way you describe it. A smile can be unstable always like a newborn. Great wording.

Second stanza- the metaphor of wanting to be free is great. You want to be free from the pain and the horse wants to roam free. Both the philly and smile are hard to show but in time they will both shine.

Third stanza- again the philly tries to stand on her ownbut its still difficult. Just llike showing the smile its hard to lnow who to show it too :).

Ending- I love the metaphors at the end as you are the philly. Longing to roam free and show what you are made of. This is a beautiful story like poem and you are beautiful just like the philly :)). 5
