Butterfly Tattoo

by Daylight Lucidity   Jul 16, 2013

The print on my skin, one etched with ink and repressed pain,
Paints such a lovely, colorful, delicate portrait
Of my heart's long forgotten game;
Breaking down walls of its steel fortress.

Its wings, a beautiful fusion of turquoise and jade,
Represent the thrill of a beating heart, a gift which you have given me;
Its body, a soft lilac with a slight pink shade,
Imitates the delicate balance of love and serenity you created within my being.

It saddens me to think that you do not see
The beautiful girl that I do
Standing right in front of me,
Fragile and unique like a four leaf clover.
I want you to know, to understand, that this love I have for you
Goes deeper than it has before
Touching a part of this forlorn, somewhat despicable heart
That was never caressed nor looked at twice, of this I am sure.

You are different in the sweetest, loveliest way
Just like this butterfly tattoo,
And every day from now until the end of time,
I will tell you that I will forever love you.

    Your poems are oh so unique. It seems like you always get better!

    First- wow such imagery here. We all get tattoos to feel alive and leave a memory in us. I know its a metaphor but still. I love it so far. Love does paint a pretty picture by far and its wonderful when it does. I love the set up here.

    Second- this might be my favorite stanza because of the wording you used to describe. The way you paint with words is mind blowing really. I love the colours of the wings and how they healed your heart. Butterflies tend to do that in us poets. So easy to write about yet so many words we can use!. I love again how it healed your inner self. A beating heart is truly a gift. Yoh couldchange it to fluttering heart.... fof the butterfly.

    Third- the first four lines are great as well. When we see a beautiful person nothing else matters and when we see ourselves in the mirror we don't see what other people see. The way you used fragile is great because butterflies and people can both be fragile. Love is always deep and it really does touch our hearts. Its new and fresh everytime so its hard to let people on!

    Ending- I believe the ending is perfect because you say how you feel directly. Everyone is different just like every tatoo is. Just like love tattoos can last forever. And in the end you will always love it. :)) this poem is so beautiful and unique. I saw no flaws! 5
