Take A Bow

by Daylight Lucidity   Jul 17, 2013

You tell me to be myself
Yet when I try it isn't good enough,
That I'm not what you want to see
You sneer with disgust.

Tell me, then, shall I follow your example?
A facade, a mask, a cloak, an act
To please anyone and everyone,
Hurting others to keep it in tact.

You put on a great show
Of haughty arrogance
Looking down your nose at us all
Lost in the land absent of innocence.

Walk away, I dare you, onto the stage that is your life
Your audience laughs and smiles and claps
As you act out another performance that isn't like the real you
But in the silence of your room, you collapse.

You wake up each morning avoiding the mirror
Afraid to see what you've become,
Yet you put the mask back into place
And begin to shun everyone you ever loved.

Stop pretending
Stop acting
You get no standing ovation
You get no applause.

Just take a bow.

People see what they want to see in us and usually its not great. They always try to control us however way they can and when we fight back they get angry. When we try to be ourselves around people we should be no matter what. It doesnt matter what they think. I love the way you put it. It really is just an act when we can't be our true us. And when we can't wr we follow other people around doing what they want. In turn we hurt our real friends.

When people control us they always think theyare bigger then us and it shows in your write. They always put on a great show. Its sad really how they think. Ok the fourth stanza is really when the poem gets going. I truly love it. I love the stage and performance of it. We feel lost and confused. We put on the act which makes us feel nothing at all and it seems like the whole world is against us.

Waking up is truly the hardest thing to do when you feel like nothing at all. Its hard looking at your self in the mirror when you feel like not the real you. I loveeee the mask metaphor. It truly is like a mask. You truly do push away the people you love. The ending is great because you truly do feel alone in the end. You shouldn't let anyone get you down at all. Be yourself and your true friends will shine! 5
