Morphine [Cease Fire Story Continuation]

by Daylight Lucidity   Jul 17, 2013

Liquid dreams flow sharp through my veins
Singing lullabies as my eyes flutter closed
Panicked voices mix and swirl around my ears
Breathing down my neck, saying this isn't just a show.
I fade in and out of consciousness
The doctors scream for more morphine,
I feel the sting of the bullet in my chest
The drugs aren't working.
My white dress now decorated with blood ribbons,
My bride nowhere to be seen, how far am I from the chapel?
Miles. I hear them leave devastated voicemails
My thoughts scream in my head : "how could this happen?"
The nurses apply pressure to the wound,
Attempting to stop the bleeding, to no avail,
I writhe in soundless agony
Wishing so desperately for her to come, to appear before my eyes
One last time...
The darkness closes over my sight,
The doctors yell, the nurses bustle about,
The monitors sound alarms so loud and annoying,
I slip away into my end with one soft whisper
With my last, morphine scented breath,
"Goodbye, my love... I shall see you again."

My wedding, my life, my love...
Ripped from my grasp with one bullet.
Why couldn't the world's horror just cease fire?

I love the double point of view poems. Cease fire was great and so is this one. It shows power too both lovers as you give the readers a lot to think about! The imagery is very sad here though. Though vivid I can see everything in my mind. The dress having blood ribbons is great as you go into so much detail about it. No matter what the lover wanted to get to her wedding. That shows how much the girl loved this other person.

Its a sad point of view though as she is trying to get to her wedding. Her bride is waiting and not knowing what is about to happen. But I love the vague of the world. Like where did the shot come from. Who shot? Another lover from her past the was jealous. I do love thr details for the people around her and finally the last line she murmurs. No matter what she will always be with her love. The heart is a mighty powerful thing indeed. The last three lines are ghe most powerful. Why couldn't the world just cease fire? Who truly knows. Her brides world torn apart because the world is truly cruel. Beautiful story all together. So sad and powerful. 5/5
