Modern Day Musings

by Saerelune   Jul 27, 2013

If there's still an unidentified child inside of me,
then why am I nothing but a photocopy
of mainstream magazines?

Must wear mint this summer.
Must wear high-heeled boots in winter.

In other words ...

Minimize the rainbow of your closet.
Break your leg when frost KO's the pavements.

I can see g-strings wavering
as the new nation's flag,
and revisiting the past
won't bring me back
an identity.

Maybe I was born without backstage passes
to my backbone; can't even revolutionize
the colour of my hair, nevermind
the spectrum of a century.

Change distanced itself from me,
as far as a child and the moon,
with its imitation still bathing
in her teacup, but even unlikely angels
must've mustered some wings to fly,
so who can blame them?

My vision board was dressed up
by the hands of fashionistas.

I'll be a rebel again,
tomorrow.

Written for Baby Rainbow's challenge:
unlikely angel
the child and the moon
revisiting the past
unidentified child
backstage passes

I've been stalking this poem a few times a day trying to figure out what to comment on it. I really don't know still, so pardon the future rambling :P

As you know, I'm a huge fan of all your work. A big part of that is because you take the every day and make it poetic, in a way that no one else really does. You pull such a meaningful message into everyday things that generally have no significance, and I believe you are absolutely brilliant at bringing inanimate objects to life. This is a poem that showcases that for me.

I love that this came from a list of prompts, and the prompts are absolutely nothing to do with the message. What I mean, is if you re-wrote this without your prompts, I doubt you would be matching with ANY of them. Not your typical style but you added it in SO well.

"Minimize the rainbow of your closet.
Break your leg when frost KO's the pavements."

Such modern-ness in your poetry (ha! see what I did there), and I really love that. I don't think everyone has the ability to do this (KO's the pavements) and pull it off... you have a knack for doing that. Very Cynnie.

You also have very descriptive pieces in here that really pull the reader in. You have such a serious message about society, the media, how we're supposed to be and how we conform to others ideas, while losing ourself. You use this subject a lot and I think it may be a stopping point in your life in the moment, but it's got great poetry. You prove to always be yourself and never conform, and that's something I truly admire in you! Keep up these amazing, life-topic pieces. You just might change someone :)

Ah this was such an incredible poem and idea you fashioned (see what I did there lol). I'm the one who challenged you on this one too!

Really liked the examples you gave, instead of just saying clothing, and how you are just like a reflection of a society driven by this fashion trends.... also like the independence you are hoping for in the final lines. That today, you may have conformed, but you won't tomorrow. I can easily imagine the world becoming shaped by certain people who we may call leaders, who dress us and suggest what we do until we don't have an identity of our own. Here you are moving forward, knowing the past won't help if you could go back, and though it may take some time, you will be your own person. You definitely made this poem your own and it had such spirit, such a message as well about society (maybe even the media in general).. how we are portrayed.

    Awesome write!!
