Ferris.

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 29, 2013

The cascade of admirers
huddle below,
ideal suitors she can only lift up
then down, never able to
touch their cheeks with the
gentleness they shower on each other.

One brisk day,
the amusement park clogged her
with a web of lies,
scratching her polish, loitering
unshaven legs as beer bottles
and flavored ice scarred her.
Doctors and grandparents prescribed
her steadiness,
(murder by illusion)
for she would have liked to been propelled
into air, volleyed into wisps of clouds
where deflating balloons puff
out their chests to be loved...

now, all she acquires is ghostly comfort,
a latent ability that may someday
invite potential
as she is a permanent accessory,
fitting those who hold hands and
seat the difference between
love and hate.

Baby Rainbow's challenge from these random prompts:

Murder by illusion
ghostly comfort
latent
web of lies
cascade
between love and hate

Wanted to do more imagery with this and try something different, geared toward one specific item. So I thought of a Ferris wheel and then ended up personifying it.

I love the ferris wheel, it's my favourite ride at any amusement park. There's something about being lifted up, away from the noise, something magical in seeing the world from up there. It resonates strength for me.

You used the prompts so well here, using the wheel as your base and personifying it, that's clever, I've not come across a poem where the ferris wheel was used like this.

If it wasn't a silly hour, I'd be on my laptop, commenting on every stanza but it's nearing 1am and I'm on my phone, trying not to mess up this comment so...

MA, you're an amazing, talented, questionable force of nature and I love this piece, one of my favourites of yours...this challenge is throwing up some brilliant writes, and this is just one of many of yours
