The girl who would never love again

by TheDarkCloudBehindthePoet   Aug 1, 2013

Nothing was more marvelous than her beautiful smile,
teeth whiter than the clouds she used to pretend to make shapes and faces out of when she was a child,
a grin could brighten the darkest night, and smile could bring a man to his knees,
her smile was not a gift, but created from years of pain,

A beautiful and strong woman she is now, but her past was filled with sadness and black clouds,
she swore to never love a gain, gritting her teeth at the notion,
giving her heart and time to the undeserving, only to be rewarded with lies and deceit,
tears tucked her in at night, and pain slept beside her,

Just the thought of her partner with another woman sent her head spinning like six mice, but to find out the lies she envisioned came to fruition made her insane,
"How could you do this too me? Do you even care?" were her cries,
but they felll on deaf ears,

One relationship after another ended in failure,
no one to blame but herself was her diagnosis,
at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again was her motto,
another unfaithful relationship broke the camels back, scarring her for life,

Alone, she gives up on love,
never again will she give her heart and let a man play with it like his favorite childhood toy,
or believe the words that come out of a man's mouth when he expresses his love,
she is numb to the feeling,

Years go by and she still governs her emotions by her set of rules, as if Moses brought them down on a stone tablet from Mount Sinai,
until one day she meets a man who makes her cheeks redder than the Sun when it rises in the Spring,
afraid to let him in, she tries to push him away with loveless quotes, and past relationship follies,
to no avail he is still interested,

Seeking council from those she trust the most, her mind is in a daze,
pleading for guidance,
"Follow your heart, it only tells the truth" were words from a wise man,
gritting her teeth into powder, she listens to her heart,

Asking him out to see if anything was there,
not caring anymore about past failures, and only thinking about the now,
little did she know they were a match made in heaven,
forever in each others grace, blessed by the angels.
