As creatures scuddle over damp forest floors,
Another day comes to an end,
Leaving traces of pinks and purples
Painted against the sky.
Clouds run away and hide
Behind the approaching moon
Timidly glancing at the stars
Welcoming them home so soon.
My eyelids droop with impending slumber,
My heart rhythmically beating a lullaby
As I lay content under the night,
Breath coming easy and unburdened by stress.
The colors fade and turn to ebony
The day's smile gone with the sun,
Allowing an onyx blanket
To cover my self in calm.
