Ocean Whisper.

by Poet on the Piano   Aug 3, 2013

Fly from this earth,
that's what she crossed her fingers for
each night when he laid over her
balmy body on the shoreline,
a daisy dress not moving
in the wind,
only dancing at his bidding
as he closed the sun off
like a bureau secluding its contents.

Which direction is home?
Because her retinas are burned
with tunnels of endless sand,
and being buried underneath
them, alive, deadly whispers
tumbling on top of her.
He destroyed beauty by
staying out past midnight,
spraying stardust at the base
of her mouth so she would
think it's magic.

She is the scarecrow
named Jerry that they used to
adorn with sun hats,
sweet, sticky wildflowers
and old snickerdoodle crumbs;
"walk a little straighter, daddy"
became her daily message
as his one life kept bending over,
crooked and evil,

always blocking her hands
that would spin like a compass.
But there is no lighthouse, no
emergency rescue, and each
time night walks over them
she realizes the waves are
still,

and that she will soon become
crippled.

This was a tough set of prompts, but you nailed them as you always do.
I love the story this told, and the direction the prompts led you in...the use of personifying the scarecrow, by giving it a name was pretty unique...didn't think of that.

This was really interesting...it was mesmerizing, and the ending was powerful, quite impressive writing MA
