Pineapple Upside-down Cake

by Larry Chamberlin   Aug 6, 2013

Like a topsy-turvy confection
he's trapped beneath another life
which only seems sweeter
than the shattered trust he caused
for blood money's haloed golden glow.

Deep in the woods his weeping beauty
cries a waterfall of wishes that she could
encompass one life with her devotion
yet she cannot even encompass
this friendship due to his terminal error
so their lives are stuck upside down.

[challenge 1:
waterfall of wishes
one life
encompass
shattered trust
blood money
terminal error
another life
friendship
- title must be
pineapple upside-down cake

challenge 2:
golden glow
weeping beauty
trapped beneath
deep in the woods
encompass]

Larry, can you please get a medal for writing of these two characters and telling their story from the prompts? It's amazing how much you've said and how natural it sounds given the amount of words/phrases... plus, it was me who challenged you and thought of the title! So I was thinking maybe a life poem or humorous poem? But then you truly made it deeper with the significance of their lives turning upside down. Awesome job with this! Has a kind of fantasy feel like a lowly man who is worshipping a queen, she is fooled by his beauty yet she can never understand who he truly is because he keeps betraying.

I think you're going to be the first person people are going to go to with many many exceptions and rules that you must abide by lol :]

I don't believe this... I just don't. You're just GOOD at making these cliche prompts draw such an original image in my mind.

They actually tell me a story & I simply record it.
