Your Side of the Bed

by Daylight Lucidity   Aug 6, 2013

Crisp sheets lack your warmth as I lay amongst the ivory linen.
Your scent of home and care merely a ghost in the room,
Your presence nonexistent this night, the night I miss you so.
Curled in a ball, I hug a pillow to my aching chest in an attempt
To fabricate your body.
Chilled by a draft from the open window, I shiver and sob once
As I yearn for your strong arms to be around me;
Your side of the bed another reminder of your love, love I miss
So entirely dearly.
For but one night you are not here, yet it seems like a lifetime.
My brain never comprehended the hold you had on my heart,
And in turn, I feel so hollow and alone as I hear my own sighs;
The absence of your breath on my neck wills the longing from my eyes.
The faint ticking of the old grandfather clock marks another minute leading to your return,
My heart pounds in time with it, as if it knows that you are coming back so soon.
My hand reaches over to caress your side of the bed,
Made up and awaiting your arrival, as I am.
I clutch the pillow to my chest, eyes wide and alert,
Waiting until your arms envelope me once more
In your angelic, beautiful, heart-warming love.
