What's in our veins.

by Poet on the Piano   Aug 9, 2013

Sometimes it's just as simple as life and death
because you don't know this but I've been contemplating
what both mean, if both are dangerous or if they are
both deluded.

We all have sat up at night, empty hands, shivers
from our naked toes up to our downtrodden ears.
We can't hear love anymore,
and how deep it used to play, keeping us safe with
lullabies and mornings of dashing outside check the mail,
be the first to touch the blooming flowers and pick
those balls of lint and season's dust from our jackets.

Sometimes I don't want to live for myself,
maybe then, I should start living for you.
I know I can do what you have inspired and
little by little,
I will believe in myself,
even if it means running toward the horizon
to feel brave
or tattooing those few words that mean so much-

strength courage let us hold on

for we are all gathered together on a faded bridge
that has been photographed by a million
grey hearts,
and somehow, we are still on it with our two
feet,

dreaming of that moment when we can shout
yes to the mountains and walk on.

Inspired by the song "The Weight of Us" by Sanders Bohlke.... had never heard this song before and now have it on repeat, it's so beautiful and touching. I can't get over this line of "let us be brave". It really spoke to me and had to write honestly.
