It's Over

by Daylight Lucidity   Aug 13, 2013

Those feelings of harsh self-loathing and colorless smiles
Radiate and spill from piercing tears and wordless pleas for help,
Aren't you tired of wanting to give it all up? Of that feeling every once in a while
That makes you wish for death.

Tell me it's all over.

You try to be a hero for everyone who spears you with condescending stares,
Putting them before your self and all that keeps you sane,
Thinking that maybe they'll someday care
If it is everything about you that you change.

Tell me that's all over.

Isolation creeps into your thoughts at night,
Leaving scars and bruises and cuts so deep though never leaving a visible mark;
Thinking that running from the fear of drowning in all the absurdities is a useless fight,
And in the process, you break your own heart.

Tell me that's all over.

You're going to be fine, just take a deep breath
Think about it carefully, listen to both heart and mind,
Don't fear being overcome by stress,
The road to recovery takes a little time;

But once it happens,

It's over.

    I hate the feelings that creep into your head at night. Especially when you are feeling like this. Self doubt creeps and you are not sure what to do. The feelings of death are always strong when you feel lost and there is nothing you can do. Is it really over though? Or is that what your mind wants us to think? I feel the feelings you portray here. Its hard to change yourself when you don't know how. It always seems to happen that way though. We protect ourselves by protecting others and we can't help us. We always want to feel loved and want others to care no matter what we go through.

    The imagery you give in the third stanza is great. We all leave our own scars on the inside because we don't know how to get help. I think our own heart breaks because we overthink a lot of things and rely on a lot of people too much. We have to change ourselves too. Although sometimes its a struggle no doubt. Once we find the right path we can always be happy and you are right it takes a lot of time to recover. I love this poem because the message is so strong and it says we have to sometimes but ourselves first to fully heal. 5/5
