Queen of Hearts

by Just Sierra   Aug 28, 2013

The Queen of Hearts title I once had possessed
I had a kingdom of riches and a garden blessed
Bewitched and cursed with an ethereal nectar
That ignited intense envy of an avid collector
His throat became drier and coarse by the hour
So, in his dreams, he sought to steal its power.
The garden displayed warning; But I, blind to see,
That love would be the ruin of my garden and me.
He seized my kingdom and stole my golden crown.
Waged wars in my name and tore my castle down.
Each day, I sat in my garden, weak to its decay
Beauty siphoned silently, and life just flew away.
The colors begun fading, leaving branches bare
But in my heart of hearts I know that life is there
