We never feared the knife

by Saerelune   Sep 7, 2013

The cutting of metal on skin oughtn't be ugly,
like veins in marble - cold feet on cold floor.

How long has it been since you've felt one
with something other than your own fabric?

We never feared the knife, never feared
its unfamiliarity - we seek change.

So how come we fear blood, how come death
breaks the desire to live instead of exist?

We never never feared the knife,
we fear bleeding.

I fear bleeding with you.
I fear us, bleeding till death.

This is a different style than your usual stuff and I'm not sure if I'm fond of it or not. It seemed very... I don't know the right word to explain it but you have a usual way of getting more focused in your poetry, really descriptive and this didn't have that natural pull.

It did carry emotion and made me think -- this could very well be suicide/self harm though, we don't fear the tool but we fear the rest of it all, what happens after we go for that change?

To me I was able to relate it to my life now with the changing of jobs. I don't fear the job itself, but I have a natural anxiety of the change - will I be good enough? Will I enjoy it? Am I making the right move? I think it's natural to question change, no matter it being big or small, and that definitely rang true toward the end of your poem.
