That Girl Is Me

by schmetterling   Sep 16, 2013

She writes an anchor on her hand
Attached to an infinity symbol
To represent
Her battle
With letting the anchor bring her down.

She refuses to sink
Because in the past she sunk
& she started to drown
In all the fear and pain
Of hopelessness.

She's a fighter
Of the demons inside her
The thoughts in her head
& the urges that try to destroy her.

She writes fighter on her wrist
To represent the eternal war inside her
To show her she can win
Even if she loses some battles.

This girl hasn't been very strong
& she wants to change that
So that she can recover
So she can get better.

She's made hundreds of cuts
Cried thousands of tears
& almost completely gave up
At many points.

Through time
The blade has won a lot
As have the thoughts
But she doesn't let them hold her back
She only lets them strengthen her.

That girl that always had it together
In public
& let it all out at home
Alone
Is beginning to feel real again
Fighting each and every thing
That tries to break her down
Into nothing but dust.

She won't give up without a fight now
As she fights for herself
To get back to that happy girl
She once was.

That girl
That struggles every day
& sometimes can't see the future
Consumed by the darkness of depression
Is me.
